Method 1: The x-intercept is where y = 0 on the graph of the line. Substitute 0 for y and solve:
(4/5)x + (1/3)y = 1
(4/5)x + (1/3)(0) = 1
(4/5)x = 1
x = 5/4 or 1.25
Method 2: Plug in the equation to Desmos and look at the graph. You cannot go wrong as long as you look at the x-intercept, rather than the y-intercept.
Method 3: Between the above two methods, there is really no other method worth exploring. If there were answer choices, you could work backwards, perhaps, but a student-produced response assumes a certain level of proficiency to derive the correct answer.
