Comment: Really, College Board? Provided you know the definition in question, you should be able to answer on sight within seconds.

Method 1: The x-intercept is where y = 0 on the graph of the line. Substitute 0 for y and solve:

(4/5)x + (1/3)y = 1

(4/5)x + (1/3)(0) = 1

(4/5)x = 1

x = 5/4 or 1.25

Method 2: Plug in the equation to Desmos and look at the graph. You cannot go wrong as long as you look at the x-intercept, rather than the y-intercept.

The x-coordinate of the x-intercept is clearly 1.25.

Method 3: Between the above two methods, there is really no other method worth exploring. If there were answer choices, you could work backwards, perhaps, but a student-produced response assumes a certain level of proficiency to derive the correct answer.
